The Fellowship shows that a life of Jewish learning and engagement with the wider world are not in tension but can genuinely enrich one another

Jewish university students in London have access to some of the finest secular education in the world. Yet for many, the opportunity to continue Torah study alongside their degree has been hard to find, until now.

The Shalem Fellowship, launched by the Office of the Chief Rabbi – Sir Ephraim Mirvis – in partnership with Yeshiva University (YU) and made possible through the generous support of the Wohl Legacy, offers young Jewish men and women at London universities the chance to pursue high level Torah learning, led by a team of outstanding rabbis and educators.

Fellows receive a stipend, can work towards a Certificate in Judaic Studies from Yeshiva University and have the opportunity to join an all-expenses-paid week of study at YU or Stern College in New York.

Maurice and Vivienne Wohl placed a priority on building religious institutions and promoting Jewish education, and the Fellowship reflects this ongoing commitment, in their memory, to strengthening Jewish communities through learning.

At its heart, the Fellowship is about showing that a life of Jewish learning and engagement with the wider world are not in tension but can genuinely enrich one another.
