The Center for Accessible Culture – Israel
The new home of The Central Library for Blind and Reading Impaired People(CLFB), a registered Israeli charity that was established in 1951 after the War of Independence, as an act of rehabilitation for soldiers who lost their sight.
located in Tel Aviv – the new Center for Accessible Culture – opened in April 2024 and offers a range of services to 15,000 blind, visually and reading-impaired subscribers regardless of faith, gender, place of residence or socioeconomic status. It makes content accessible in Hebrew, Arabic, Russian and English. Their subscribers also include people with learning disabilities, senior citizens, and those with physical or motor disabilities that make it difficult for them to hold a book.
The Library produces three main formats of books, large print, braille, and audio. The books are available as hard copies, or as on-line files throw their website and an app.
The Maurice and Vivienne Wohl Employment and Enrichment Centre, is located on this new state-of-the-art campus, it is a venue specifically for running events, for their visually and reading impaired members. The programme of workshops available here is designed to enrich the world of those with site issues and include topics of interest, like podcast workshops, theater workshops and writing and acting seminars. In addition, there are screenings of accessible films and lectures, also for the benefit of blind and visually impaired audiences.
